The Barcelona City Council (Ayuntamiento de Barcelona) has received this Tuesday Sanjay Verma, Ambassador of India in Spain, with the aim of improving relations between the Catalan capital and the emerging Asian giant. A meeting from which has emerged the proposal to open a consulate in the city.
Jaume Collboni, first deputy mayor, and Laia Bonet, councilor for Agenda 2030, Digital Transition, Sports and Territorial and Metropolitan Coordination, have shared with the Indian diplomat the willingness to start working to make the new legation a reality within two years, before April 2023.
MORE AIR CONNECTIONS AND GREATER ECONOMIC EXCHANGE
In the meeting, organized jointly by the consistory and Casa Àsia, the improvement of air connections between Barcelona and the cities of the subcontinent has also been raised, as well as the enhancement of economic flows, trade, and investment, and the reception of new institutional and business delegations.
Collboni also pointed out that the City Council “is working to attract European funds for strategic projects that will help Barcelona become a more equitable, digital and sustainable economy”. An economic transformation that Asian countries “can help accelerate” thanks to the “promotion of business projects,” he said.
