Tutoring is a genuinely good option and gets covered thoroughly elsewhere — this post is specifically for everything else. Some of these need zero Spanish, some are fully remote and work around any class schedule, and a few are genuinely unique to studying in a city like Barcelona.
All of these still count toward your work authorisation limits (30 hours/week for most non-EU students) and generally need proper registration, not informal cash arrangements — Post #3's cautions on that front apply here too.
Paid Research Assistant Roles
If you're doing well academically, ask your department directly about research assistant openings — professors regularly need help with data collection, literature review, or lab work, and these positions pay while building a genuinely strong CV line for future studies or a PhD application.
International Student Peer Mentor / Buddy Programs
Most universities run paid or credit-bearing peer mentor programs pairing experienced international students with newcomers — genuinely low-effort, high-reward if you enjoy helping people navigate what you once found confusing yourself, and a role that looks good alongside future job applications.
Campus Brand Ambassador Programs
Companies like N26, food delivery apps, and telecom providers regularly run paid campus ambassador programs — light promotional work, social media posting, event support, usually just a few hours a week. Search "campus ambassador Barcelona" or check your university's career centre for current openings.
Event Staffing at Major Barcelona Conferences
Barcelona hosts genuinely massive events — Mobile World Congress, Sónar festival, and countless trade fairs throughout the year — all needing temporary staff for registration, translation support, booth assistance, and logistics. Often pays well above minimum wage for a concentrated few days, and English (sometimes Hindi) fluency is frequently an asset rather than a barrier.
Freelance Social Media Management
Local businesses — including Indian restaurants, tutoring collectives, and small community organisations — often need someone to run their Instagram consistently and don't have the time themselves. If you're comfortable with basic content creation, this can start as a small side project and often grows into a genuinely paid retainer.
Freelance Graphic Design / Video Editing
If you have real design or editing skills, platforms like Fiverr and Upwork let you take on project-based work entirely on your own schedule — genuinely compatible with unpredictable exam weeks, since you control how much you take on and when.
University Library & Administrative Assistant Roles
Libraries, computer labs, and administrative offices regularly hire student staff for shelving, front-desk support, and basic admin tasks — quiet, predictable work, often with study-friendly downtime built into slower shifts.
App & Website Usability Testing
Platforms like UserTesting pay per completed test session — you use an app or website while thinking out loud on camera, and companies pay for that honest first-impression feedback. Not a full income on its own, but a genuinely easy way to fill small gaps between classes.
Data Entry & Online Transcription
Transcription and data entry platforms offer genuinely low-barrier, work-whenever-you-want income — not high-paying, but reliable and completely compatible with an unpredictable academic schedule when you just need a small buffer.
Event & Portrait Photography
If photography is a real skill you have, campus events, community celebrations, and even other students' graduation or portfolio shoots are a consistent, well-paying source of work within the community — often word-of-mouth through the same networks covered in Post #6.
Childcare Within the Indian Community
Indian families in the community — including many dependent spouses covered in Post #2 — regularly need trusted, occasional childcare, and often specifically prefer someone from within the community for comfort and shared cultural context. Paid Conversational English Practice (Not Formal Tutoring)

Design, video editing, and photography skills have real market rates — research typical pricing before your first few gigs so you're not anchoring future clients to an unsustainably low rate.
The flexibility of remote micro-work cuts both ways — it's easy to overcommit precisely because each individual task feels small, until they stack up during your busiest academic weeks.
Childcare, photography, and small freelance projects within the community can feel too informal for a written agreement — but a simple message confirming pay, hours, and scope protects everyone and prevents misunderstandings later.
